Preparing for the school

During this school you will be working on your own projects using Gaia data. Make sure you have the following available on your laptop:

  • Python
    • An up to date Python environment (anaconda is recommended). For the GaiaSky tutorial Python version 3.10 or later is recommended.
  • Gaia archive tutorial
    • Topcat is very useful for manipulating Gaia tables and interacting with the Gaia archive and other data repositories. In addition it offers nice cross-match facilities.
  • Gaia selection function tutorial
  • The public engagement training 
    • This training features a tutorial on GaiaSky. Please download and install the software before coming to the school.
    • For scripting GaiaSky  py4j is needed.
    • For rendering videos ffmpeg is used.

Please add your slide to the Pitch Cards slide deck which we will use on day 1 to get to know each other.
